Sea Star Aquatics provides community-based swim programs and recreational exercise opportunities for all individuals with special needs and physical disabilities in a safe aquatic environment. We take a holistic approach to swimming. Our program contributes to the well-being of the whole person in five key areas: social interaction, emotional development, cognitive growth, physical health, and spiritual reflection. Our outcome-oriented program balances functional independence with pure, joyful play, which fundamentally changes and improves the lives of our clients.
Sea Star Aquatics LLC is owned and operated by Stacy Smith. As a certified Aquatic Recreation Therapist, Stacy has been teaching children and adults with special needs and physical limitations for 15 years at the Bellevue Aquatic Center in Washington. Stacy is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, and a certified Aquatic Exercise Instructor. She combines her extensive knowledge and athletic ability with her kind, caring nature to provide the best programs for her clients. Stacy knows how to push her clients to their fullest potential with positive support and encouragement through every step of the learning process.
A lifelong swimmer, Clara has 20 years of experience working with special needs children. She believes in helping families build a solid foundation where children are empowered to learn and grow into responsible, capable, caring adults. She is Aquatic Therapy and Rehab Institute Certified and a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard/First-Aid/CPR/AED. Clara is also a USA Swimming Certified Coach. Her playful nature, bright pink hair, and ability to connect with children has earned her the nickname "Bubbles." Clara specializes in teaching adapted swim skills and water safety to children of all abilities.
Among many accomplishments, such as her successful career as a Boeing engineer, Kelly has been swimming for as long as she can remember. She participated in high school, college, and masters-level swim teams. Kelly holds her USA Swimming coach certification, as well as being a certified lifeguard/CPR/AED. In addition to teaching swimming at Sea Star Aquatics, Kelly is active in the disabled community. She volunteers as an adaptive cross country ski instructor with Outdoors for All. Kelly also enjoys work as a volunteer coach with the Shadow Seals, a local disability swim club. Kelly is upbeat, encouraging, and energetic while also pushing her athletes to reach their full potential. As an instructor and coach, Kelly enjoys sharing her love of swimming with her students and the empowerment that comes with learning new skills.
